ANFFE condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and stands in solidarity with all those affected by the crisis.

Russia exports around 45% of the gas it consumes to the EU and is one of the main suppliers of fertilizers to the EU, a basic and key input for agricultural production. The recent events in Ukraine and the impact of the measures that have been adopted by both Russia and the EU are further accelerating the recent increase in the prices of energy and some raw materials, significantly affecting the fertilizer sector, causing difficulties in supply and an extraordinary increase in production costs.

Given this situation, now more than ever it is essential to reduce the obstacles and barriers that hamper the competitiveness of companies and support an industry that is key in agricultural production. In addition, the war in Ukraine, and previously the COVID-19 crisis, have shown the importance of having a national agriculture that ensures the supply of food in sufficient quantity and at affordable prices for consumers, thereby reducing external dependence.

Fertilizer manufacturers are making all the necessary efforts to continue providing farmers with the highest quality products, offering them technical advice so that they can fertilize crops rationally and actively contributing to maintaining agricultural production that helps ensure food security in Europe.
